Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pineapple PC a new company?

Yes and no.  Yes, the name Pineapple PC is new but the founder Jeff San George has been providing quality PC service since 1988.

Why Pineapple PC?

In colonial times a pineapple was a very rare and sought after fruit.  When hosting a dinner party people would rent them from wealthy families.  The fruit became a symbol of hospitality, friendship and good tidings.  That is what Pineapple PC is all about.  You and your needs come first.  The PC is only a tool.

Why do you come to my house or business?

It’s simple.  Most problems are best solved right where the PC is used.  I spare you the time and hassle of unplugging all those wires, dragging it to me and then possibly damaging the computer during the trip.

Is my PC worth fixing?

One of the best questions to ask.  If you computer came with Windows XP as an operating system it is very much worth fixing.  It will have enough power to continue for a long while.  I might suggest more ram but that is usually it.  If it came with Windows ME or Windows 98, it might not be worth it.  I can make a recommendation before I begin the work.
How do you charge for your service?

I have a flat rate pricing schedule which is based on hourly service.  I do not mark up hardware and I try to use license freeware whenever possible. Visit my Pricing page for full details.
If I lose my Windows XP CD and I need the OS reinstalled can you just reinstall it for me?

No for two reasons.  The first is that legally I can’t use another disk to reinstall your operating system and second it’s just wrong to do this.  The operating system to a computer is like fuel to a car.  With out it it’s all show and no go.
How big is Pineapple PC?

Pineapple PC is small.  We are a one man operation with the resources of the largest companies in the world.  I do this to provide you with the best service period.  If I can’t fix it on the spot, I will find a solution and that’s guaranteed.

Why do you say “Service you can Trust”

The dictionary defines trust as “reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence.”  That’s what you get with you invite me into your home or business.  Recently some of the retail service centers have been getting into a lot of trouble with trust.  Check this out

What are the basics needs of any PC?

Your PC needs to be clean, secure, safe and backed up in that order.

Clean – Windows and the internet place a ton of junk on your computer.  This needs to be removed on a regular basis I will show you how.

Secure – With the ever increasing reliance on the internet there is more and more of an opportunity for people to invade your computer, send you viruses, Trojans and malware all in an attempt to gather information on you and generally disrupt your life.  I will secure your system.

Safe – Your PC needs to be safe for the whole family.  Just like you would lock the liquor cabinet, gun cabinet and keep pornographic materials out of your home.  Every PC in the home should have parental controls installed on them.  This is for the protection of you and your children.

Backed Up – In all my years of computing and service I have never had a Yes to this question.  Do you back up your computer?  The fact is no one does.  I think this is because it’s just too hard to do.  It’s time consuming, and just a general pain.  I have a simple solution for this, that is a set it and forget it solution.

Consider this. . . when you computer crashes how will you replace those thousands of photos you took, and all that music and video you downloaded?  Once your PC dies it’s dead.

What are the nice to haves with my PC?

It is now becoming the norm that families have 2 – 4 computers, 1-2 digital cameras, 1 digital video camera, 2-3 printers and 2-4 I-pods and 4-6 VoiP phones in the home.  With that being said networking is the answer to making all that technology work together.

I can set up your wireless network, printer sharing, file sharing, music, photo and video sharing.

What is the state of the art in today’s PCs.

For the most part the state of the art today is the total integration of your digital home.  Everything from internet services in your car running on your car computer to a full PC driven multimedia home.  We even set up home internet based surveillance systems.  The sky is the limit.  If you want it I can do it and do it well.

How do I safely dispose of my older computer?

Pineapple PC will take your computer for free and recycle it with approved recyclers.  This is a service for you that I do at no charge.  However I do have to charge $7 per monitor.  There is hazardous material in the monitor and that is what the recycle center charges.
